1. I just moved to Hays County. Do I need to update my registration?

Yes. If you have moved, changed your name, or updated your mailing address, you should update your voter registration.

2. How do I register to vote in Texas?

To vote in Texas, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a resident of Texas
  • Be at least 18 years old by Election Day
  • Be registered by the state deadline

3. What if I'm 17 but turning 18 soon?

You may register to vote if you are 17 years and 10 months old, but you cannot vote until you are 18.

4. What happens when I arrive at a Vote Center?

When you arrive:

  1. Present your approved photo ID
  2. Confirm your registration information
  3. Receive your ballot
  4. Cast your vote

Hays County uses Vote Centers, so you may vote at any open location.

5. What if I forget my photo ID?

Texas law requires approved photo ID. If you do not have one, there are specific procedures available at polling locations.
